What Does the Fitbit Ace 2 Do?

The Fitbit Ace 2 is the newest kids’ fitness tracker. In fact, not only is it the newest, but we also believe that it is the best option out there for your children right now! There are so many different features that really make this watch unique.

First of all, it has a relatively low cost compared to other fitness watches. It is even reasonably priced compared to the original Fitbit Ace as it has dropped almost 30 dollars at the current $69.95 price point. When fitness watches cost considerably more than the Fitbit Ace 2, it can be hard to wrap your mind around buying it for your children.

However, just because the price point is lower does not been you are missing out on any features. The Fitbit Ace 2 pretty much has every feature that you could want for your children. As far as activity tracking, it has step tracking, daily activity goals, move reminders, a timer, and a stopwatch so your kid can have fun tracking their movement throughout the day!

It even has things beyond your basic activity tracking! One of parent’s favorite features is the sleep tracking feature! Not only can it help your figure out if your kids are getting enough rest, but it also can help your kid take responsibility for their own sleep schedule with bedtime reminders and silent alarms.

The only feature that is missing on this watch that you find on many others is a heart rate tracker. However, most kids do not really care or need a heartrate monitor, so most people do not find that they miss it too bad.

Sleep Tracker

The best part about having a Fitbit Ace, regardless of the version, is that it is an awesome sleep tracker. The sleep tracker is an automatic feature, so your child will not have to remember to turn it on and off, and it provides so many benefits to both the parent and the child.

As far as actually sleep tracking, the Fitbit Ace 2 does not track sleep stages because it does not have a heart rate monitor, but it does track how many times the child wakes during the night and any periods of restlessness, which is really enough for most children. It will also provide you with the time that your child actually fell asleep and the time that they got up in the morning so that you have a complete picture of how long they are really sleeping.

Having enough sleep is directly correlated to both a child’s physical health and how they perform in school, so having a clear picture of how much your child is actually sleeping can help you explain certain behaviors or changes. Like adults, some kids have trouble sleeping, which means that even if they have an early bedtime, they may not actually fall asleep until much later or they may struggle staying asleep. Having this information can help you, as the parent, make informed decisions to help your child.

Furthermore, the Fitbit Ace 2 sleep tracker feature can help your child start to take some responsibility for their own sleep schedule. You can set both bedtime reminders and silent alarms. With the bedtime reminder, your kid will know it is time to start heading for bed, and the silent alarms can make the morning so much easier.

What Age is the Fitbit Ace 2 For?

The Fitbit Ace 2 has been given an age rating of six years old and up. There are a couple of different reasons for that age rating, which is younger than many other watches out there.

First of all, design-wise, the watch has a bigger buckle than many other watches on the market, making it easier for tiny, less-coordinated fingers to use. The buckle and the entirety of the watch itself are also more durable than many other options out there, so you do not need to worry about your child running around on the playground and bumping into things. In fact, you do not even need to worry about it getting wet because the watch is swim-proof!

The watch is also just fun for kids! It can be hard to keep your kid wearing something that they find boring, but the Fitbit Ace 2 is anything but! It comes in fun colors, and your kid can pick out their very own avatar to sit on the face of the watch! The face of the watch will even change throughout the day as goals are achieved, which can make accomplishing goals fun for young children.

As far as age limits or maximum age, there really is not one as far as usability. The tracker works just as well for older kids or even teens as it does for six-year-olds; however, there may be an age where kids start to want something a little “older” looking, but that really depends on your kid.

What is the Difference Between the Fitbit Ace and Ace 2?

First of all, the Fitbit Ace and the Fitbit Ace 2 look quite different. The Fitbit Ace looks more like an adult fitness tracker, which can make it better for older kids/teenagers. However, younger kids may have found the original Fitbit Ace to be boring or hard to use, so the new look really makes it perfect for the target audience.

The original Fitbit Ace is slim, meaning it is not nearly as durable and was only splash resistant, so it really could not get all that wet. However, as mentioned previously, the new design is perfect for chasing and wrestling on the playground, and it is perfectly safe to get all wet as it is swim-proof!

Another pretty major difference is in the screen itself. The original Fitbit Ace has what is known as a tap screen, which means that the user had to tap the screen with some level of force in order to flip through the different tracking options. However, the new Fitbit Ace 2 has a touch screen which makes it really user friendly, especially for the generation that is growing up with smart devices.

Fitbit Ace 2 VS Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2

Another fairly popular kids fitness tracker is the Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2, so how does the Fitbit Ace 2 compare? Well, first of all, it is worth mentioning that they do have slightly different (though overlapping) age ranges. The Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2 is recommended for kids starting at four years old; however, most older kids, starting with upper elementary ages, will likely want something that looks a little less child-like. Many people say the Garmin VivoFit Jr 2. is only good for kids up to 7 years old, which is quite limited.

As far as design, the Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2 has various themes from Spiderman to Frozen, which really makes it marketable to younger kids, while the plain but colorful designs of the Fitbit Ace 2 appeals more to older kids. The FitbitAce 2 also has a bigger screen that is a touch screen, while the Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2 has a small screen operated with a button. The Fitbit Ace 2 screen definitely has more to it and looks sleeker, but the Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2’s simplicity may be less of a distraction.

Another pretty big difference between the Fitbit Ace 2 and the Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2 is the battery. The Fitbit Ace 2 has a rechargeable battery that you have to charge about every five days, while the Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2’s battery is a one-use battery. However, it does last for about a year, so you do not have to replace it all that often. One is not necessarily better than the other, so it really just depends on what works for you and your child.

One feature that is unique to the Garmin VivoFit Jr. 2 is a points system. With this system, parents can set various different goals for their child, such as “Be nice to your sister” or “clean your room” and award points to the child when the goal is completed. This, of course, is not necessarily fitness or health-related, so you are not missing out on the Fitbit Ace 2, but some parents do enjoy the added feature.

Finally, as far as similarities: both watches have your typical trackers (step, sleep, etc.), and both can be used to set fitness goals such as be active for a certain amount of time or get a certain number of steps. Furthermore, both are swim-proof and come at a similar price point, though neither have a heartrate monitor or GPS capabilities.

Parental Controls: Can Fitbit Ace 2 Recieve Texts

Fitbit Ace 2 has great parental controls that you can set up easily from your phone with a family account. You can set your kids’ watches into what is called Protected Kid View, which will only allow your kid to see their fitness stats, badges, and change their avatar and clock face. Your kids can be friends with other Fitbit users, but they will first have to get parental permission to add any friends with the Protected Kid View.

In Parent View, you will also be able to look over your kids’ activity, enable and disable features, and approve friend requests, which is all made really simple with Fitbit’s family account option.

If your child does have a smartphone, you can pair it with the watch to receive call notifications, but not text notifications. However, as the parent, you do have the capabilities to decide whether you want to enable these features, and your child will not be able to answer or respond to calls from the watch.

Battery Life

With children, it is unlikely that you are going to want to have to remember to charge your kid’s watch all the time, and that is one of the benefits of the Fitbit Ace 2. The battery in this device will hold a charge for about five days before you have to charge it again, and that is with 24/7 wear, so you can use it as both a fitness tracker and a sleep tracker.

When it is time to charge the Fitbit Ace 2, it only takes about one to two hours to fully charge, so you can do it while watching a movie or completing bath time, so your kid does not miss out on any tracking fun! Furthermore, you can tell whether the watch is fully charged because the battery will smile when it is full, a fun add on for kids. Plus, then you do not have to deal with your kid constantly asking if it is charged; they can check themselves!

Water Resistance vs. Waterproof

Almost every fitness tracker or smartwatch out there is claiming water resistance nowadays, but what does that mean? Well, water-resistance generally means it can be exposed to some moisture (generally a splash or a little rain) and still be just fine. However, most water resistance devices will still have problems if they are fully submerged.

On the other hand, the Fitbit Ace 2 is a water-proof or swim-proof design. This means that not only will it be fine if it gets a little wet due to a splash or some rain, but it will also be perfectly fine if completely submerged when swimming or during bathtime. This feature is really great for younger kids as they may not always remember to take off a watch before jumping in the water.

Can the Fitbit Ace 2 Make My Kid’s Life Better?

We are all about helping people find products that will improve their lives. We truly believe that, if used consistently, the Fitbit Ace 2 can assist you in making your kid’s life better; however, it is up to you to do the work!

The Fitbit Ace 2 gives you lots of valuable information about your kid’s health, from sleep to physical activity. We already talked about the sleep feature above, but how could the physical activity help? Well, physical fitness/activity is key to kids remaining healthy as they get older, and this tracker can help you do just that by allowing you to have an accurate idea of what your kid is doing and allowing you to set fun goals to help your kids do more!

Now, we understand that your kid may not be motivated by the numbers like adults are, which is why the avatars are really such a beneficial thing! The avatars change throughout the day as your kid gets closer and closer towards their goals, which gives them a fun thing to work towards, rather than just a number.

*Water-resistant up to 50 meters. Based on independent testing.

†Battery power consumption depends on factors such as network configuration, carrier network, and signal strength.
